Après une grave dépression nerveuse, Liz Michaels rentre chez elle et retrouve son fils, Anthony, et son mari, Gabe. Alors que l'équilibre familial, encore fragile, se restaure progressivement, une jeune fille prénommée Caitlin se présente chez eux.
