한 해양 탐사팀이 남태평양의 미탐사 해저 협곡에서 신호를 잃은 무인 탐사선을 회수하기 위해 잠수 임무에 나선다. 하지만 그곳에는 수면 아래 존재를 감춘 괴이한 생명체가 기다리고 있다. 산소는 줄어들고, 통신은 끊기며, 한 사람씩 실종되는 가운데— 그들은 “아래에서 무언가가 그들을 지켜보고 있음을” 깨닫게 된다.
